George Heath art on The Falcon from the 1957 Radio Fun Annual these pages were photocopied and sent to me by Brian "Bib" Edwards back in the 1990s when he learnt of my interest in the character.
The character featured in Radio Fun from 1947-1960. From 1st June, 1957 (BIG clue there as to why I was interested!), he featured on the front page in his new costume.

Absolutely love The Falcon. Very very British. More real with his flying suit than any American superhero. That's just it - he's not super. Starightfoward, decent, forerunner of James Bond. And George Heath's art is fantastic. Amazing how he creates a lively scene with lines. Chrisopher Nolan should do something with The Falcon!
ReplyDeleteIf Nolan got it there would need to be explosions...lots of them. It would be interesting to see how a character like the Falcon would fair but I think the original time period is important -no mobile phones, computers. Possible. The old artists like Heath knew just how to curve or straighten the line at the right point to bring life to a figure. I woul;d love to know how long it took hgim to complete one page!!

ReplyDeleteTHAT is about the only way to describe it. Pencil, brush and ink. No digital devices and yet look what he achieved!
